Arch Taekwondo Reopens
Arch Taekwondo has reopened its doors following a three-month hiatus aimed at helping slow down the spread of the coronavirus.
The school began providing regular classes for its junior and adults July 1 on a modified schedule tailored to conform to new St. Louis city and county heath guidelines related to the coronavirus pandemic. The institution will also continue offering online lessons which have proven to be very popular with junior and adult members.
“We are trying the best we can to provide our members with ways to practice good taekwondo and stay in shape, particularly now when having good health is very important,’ said Patrick L. Thimangu, owner and master instructor. “To do this we’ve had to make some changes to our schedule and adopt new policies in the dojang.”
The changes Arch Taekwondo has adopted include requiring that all its members wear masks when practicing taekwondo in the dojang. Class participants are also required to maintain distance of at least six feet, as required by city and county coronavirus guidelines.
“We are also not having any contact in our classes for the time being,” Thimangu said. “That of course makes practice hard because taekwondo is a contact martial art and sport, but there are many other things we can work on without engaging in direct sparring or self- defense exercises.”
As part of the change Arch Taekwondo will limit sizes of regular classes. The school will also alter its schedule to enable instructors to provide regular and online classes daily.
